Eltham Bingo Hall

Mecca Eltham is located on the appropriately named Eltham Hill Road in Greenwich. The club boasts lots of great facilities, including regular bingo and electronic bingo games (Mecca Max), hearing loop, disabled toilets and access, a bar, freshly prepared food from their diner and elusive car parking spaces to the rear. Beazley and Holmes were thought to have been involved in another robbery on a van outside a Mecca Bingo Hall, on Eltham Hill, SE9 on Monday, 17 February. They had used the white Range Rover Evoque which turned up later in the robbery at the post office in Mottingham.

  • Mecca Eltham is situated on Eltham Hill in Greenwich where this is a convenient bus stop on the club’s doorstep serving route numbers 321, B15, B16 and N21. Routes 124, 160 and 660 also serve the club which stops just around the corner by the back of the bingo hall.
  • So the groundwork for the closure of the Mecca Bingo Hall and its conversion to flats was laid in 2012, but what caused the newly appointed Conservative candidate for Eltham Louie French to raise its imminent closure was the recent consultation published by the Council on the ‘Site Allocations Preferred Approach” which justified building.
  • Eltham Mecca Bingo Eltham Hill, London SE9 5ED. We are so excited to announce our brand new, huge venue – the incredible Eltham Mecca Bingo! Located on Eltham Hill at the corner of Kingsground. The Odeon Eltham Hill was built for and operated by the Oscar Deutsch Odeon Theatres Ltd. chain. It opened on 14th April 1938 with Anna Neagle in “Victoria The Great”.

The facade is rather bland and is covered in sheets of cream and black glass. Inside the auditorium, seating was provided in a semi-stadium style with a seperate raised balcony at the rear that did not overhang the stalls seating. There were 883 seats in the stalls and 828 in the balcony.

The Odeon Eltham Hill was located only half a mile away from the Odeon Well Hall and very rarely played concurrent Odeon release films. The Odeon Eltham Hill tended to play the Gaumont release and from 28th November 1949 it was re-named the Gaumont. This was quite a rare event as usually Gaumont’s were re-named Odeon.

It was closed by the Rank Organisation on 19th June 1967 with David Niven in “Happy Go Lovely” and Dana Andrews in “Duel in the Jungle”. It was converted into a Top Rank Bingo Club which operates today as a Mecca Bingo Club.
